Work Life Balance
Sometimes, or even most of the time, life seems to be so hectic that we forget to make time to enjoy it. When balancing work, school, relationships, a healthy diet, and more, there seems to never be enough hours in a day to get everything done. In order to truly be in control of my life, I have several habits that keep me sane when times get busy:
- To do lists: I like making lists of things I need to accomplish everyday, not only because it helps me to remember everything, but also because I feel a sense of accomplishment crossing them off. I have noticed myself become significantly more productive after I started making lists.
- Multitasking: If I have a final the next day but also need to work out, I’ll bring my flashcards down to the elliptical so I can kill two birds with one stone. Practicing a presentation while showering or cooking is another one of my favorites.
- Learn to say no: Knowing your priorities is important, and by recognizing them it will be easier to say no to that party that you didn’t really want to go to anyway. Sometimes you need to put yourself first and say no to a request from someone else.
- Meal prep: You’ve heard it before, on Sunday night make all your meals for the week. This leaves only reheating for you on the nights you get home late and don’t want to spend time cooking a healthy meal. It has helped me maintain a healthy diet, as well as allowed me to spend more time with friends after a long day. And remember, leftovers are priceless!
Always remind yourself that you are working to live, not living to work. Make time for yourself by following habits that keep you in charge of your life, and always remember that breaks are needed and well deserved!
